Postcard from Miami
Greetings from Miami Beach and the 2014 International Retail Design Conference (IRDC) where the scenery, speakers and food were extraordinary. Favorite aspects of my September trip include:
- Presenters, Faith Bartrug and Allison Westrick, asked 40 designers to contribute their neighborhood inspiration hot spots and then proceeded to rock their inspiring and entertaining session ’40 Designers, 40 Cities, 40 Minutes!’
- Café Con Leche (con azucar, of course)
- The Wynwood Arts District & The Wynwood Walls, an eclectic and exciting area where nearly every building is enveloped in an array of colorful, highly graphic, and imaginative artwork.
- The Pulpo a Feira at Barceloneta in South Beach

- The Fountainebleau Hotel, designed in 1954 by Morris Lapidus, is hard to miss with its curving white tower and gorgeously manicured grounds. Lapidus is probably best known for being one of the first retail interiors designers to bring the product out from behind the glass case and the Fountainebleau was his first hotel.

- Last, but not least, the beach.
